新年あけましておめでとうございます！
毎年思いますが、１年ほんっっとうにあっという間に過ぎますね…。
SAMSARAは海外でドタバタと新年を迎えましたが、みなさんの年末年始はいかがでしたか？

２０１９年は・・・イノシシ年！（ちなみに中国ではブタ年なんですよ）
ということで、さっそく「ブタ・イノシシ」にちなんだ絶滅危惧種についてシェアします！
2019 is the “Year of the Pig/Boar”!
So let’s start this year’s blog by introducing some endangered pig species!

そもそもブタって絶滅危惧種じゃないでしょ？と。
イノシシを家畜化した亜種がいわゆるブタであり、２種類ともにもちろん絶滅危惧種ではありません。
しかし、実は他にもイノシシの近縁である亜種が存在するんですよ〜！
Pigs are domesticated
subspecies of the Wild Pigs, and of course these subspecies are “least
concerned”.
There are however, quite a few endangered subspecies of wild pigs!

ヒゲイノシシ Bornean Bearded Pig

「野生のヒゲイノシシ、マレーシアのボルネオにあるバコ国立公園にて」Thomas Quine
名前の通り、イボイノシシたちよりもっと顕著にあごひげが目立つヒゲイノシシ！ボルネオ島と近隣の島に生息します。
多い時は３００頭ほどの成獣のオス以外で構成される群れで行動します。他のイノシシ科同様に雑食ですが、よくテナガザルなどの行動を追って、彼らが落とすフルーツを好むとか！
As the name suggests
they have lush beards made of coarse fur! They inhabit mainly Borneo and some
other nearby islands.
Not much is known, but
usually they move around in herds called “sounders” and can consist of as much
as 300 females and offspring. Like most wild pig subspecies they are omnivores;
they like to follow gibbons and pick up on fruits and nuts that they drop from
the trees!
スンダイボイノシシ Javan Warty Pig
インドネシアの固有種で、顔まわりから腹部にかけてのヒゲのように長い毛と頭の上の長い毛が特徴です。主に森林に生息しますが、近年は環境破壊により農耕地にも生息するように。
Native to Indonesia, they have beard like long fur from their lower jaws to the stomach. They prefer to live in forests but recent habitat destruction has caused them to move into the farmlands.

どんなに調べても和名が見つからず…。ここではとりあえず英名をそのままカタカナで呼ばせてもらいましょう。
フィリピンのヴィサヤ諸島に生息します。イノシシ科の中で最も絶滅に近い亜種ですが1993年に独立した亜種として認められた比較的新しい種なんです！生息数分断や環境破壊、人間との衝突も増えて生息数は激減しました。
幸い保護プロジェクトは始動していて、世界各地の動物園や保護施設で繁殖プログラムなども行われています。
These warty pigs live
on the Visayan islands in the Philippines. Although the most endangered
subspecies of wild pigs, they are in fact a new species that were only
recognized in 1993! Luckily, conservation and breeding programmes are already
in action around the world, and you can meet them in many zoos!
ここで紹介したイノシシ科のみんなはどれもとても珍しくなかなか情報が公開されていません。というかそもそもあまりリサーチが進んでいないのかもしれませんね…。
以前ACCBのマークが言っていましたが、絶滅危惧種のカメはたくさんいるけれど地味な動物だからなかなか研究費や保護施設の建設費が集まらないそうです。ネコ科とかだと人気者だからすぐ政府や資金が動くとか。わからなくもないですがちょっと悲しい差別化ですよね…。
カメとネコの話のように、珍しいイボイノシシ、されどイノシシ。この絶滅危惧種のイノシシ科たちも実は現地ではごく普通のイノシシのように害獣扱いされていて、現地民の多くには「絶滅危惧種」という認識すらないんです！
ひとりひとりが自分の国にどんな貴重な動物が生息しているのか知ることはとても重要なことです。今後は日本発のブランドとして日本の絶滅危惧種にもフォーカスできたらと思っています！
