ACCBとは？ / What is ACCB?

カンボジアはシェムリアップに拠点を置く野生動物保護プロジェクトで、立ち上げの発端はカンボジア人生物学者のサム・ヴィースナ氏でした。彼の死後、有志が様々なNGOに働きかけた結果ドイツの動物園やZGAP、個人のスポンサーの支援を得て２００１年に発足しました！２００４年に施設が一通り完成し、以後カンボジアの野生動物保護活動に貢献しています。

ACCB is a wildlife conservation project based in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Originating from local biologist Sam Veasna's passion, Allwetterzoo Münster and ZGAP took up on his legacy and in 2004 the facility was completed. Since then it has been active as one of the important wildlife conservation sites in Cambodia.

ロケーション / Location

場所：クバール・スピアン（シェムリアップ中心地から車で約１時間）

施設駐車場を挟んで向かい側にはちょっとしたレストランがありますがそれ以外は近辺には何もなくかなりローカル感まんさい。アンコールワットに比べるともちろん知る人ぞ知るスポットなので観光客は少ないですが、私たち以外にもいろんな国からのツアー客がいました（しかも２日目は団体さん！）。

The facility is located about 1hr drive from the centre of Siem Reap in Kbal Spien.

Although Siem Reap is buzzing with tourists heading to Angkor Wat, ACCB is basically in the middle of nowhere (which is good for the animals of course!) with a few local restaurants just outside of the facility. 

It's not the Angkor temples so tourists are scarce in the area, but for both days we visited we were joined by other tourists from around the world!

世界の車窓から 〜中心地からクバール・スピアン編〜。赤土の凸凹道だったり、牛渋滞だったり、長閑な田園風景とおじさんだったり。

赤土ロードは２年前のプノンペン生活を思い出してしんみりしてしまいました…ホント、インフラの成長早いんですよこの国！

ツアーについて / Guided tours

ガイド付きツアーに参加する形のみで一般開放されています。事前予約必須ですよ！

Facility is only open to the public as guided tours so you should make reservations 1~2 days in advance!

一般向け/Normal tour：＄３〜

団体向け/Large group：＄３．５〜

取材向け/Photographers & Journalists：＄２５〜

初日の一般ツアーのガイドだったティダさん。学校を卒業してすぐACCBに入り８ヶ月目だとか。英語も堪能でフレンドリーな方でした！ツアー終わりに３人で玄関に向かって歩いていたら、あの木には野生の鳥のツガイが住んでてよく見ると青くて綺麗なのよ！と教えてくれました(^^)

First day we participated in the normal guided tour and our guide was Thida. She's been at ACCB for 8 months now and we could clearly see how much she loves animals from her tour :D 

２日目に取材向けのプライベートツアーをガイドしてくれたマーク。１５年間ヨーロッパ各地で動物園の飼育員を経験し、ACCBにきて９ヶ月ほど。今まで住んできたどのお家よりもここの宿舎が一番よく眠れる…という話が印象深かったです！朝は野生のテナガザルやサイチョウの鳴き声で起きるそうです！

Following day we went back for the photographer/journalist tour because we wanted more time taking photos and getting +α info. Mark spent 15yrs as a zoo keeper around Europe and is now at ACCB. While we sleep in our city apartments and wake up to the iPhone alarm, he sleeps in a hammock on the balcony and wake up to wild hornbills and gibbons...!

動物たち / The animals

ペット用として、あるいは東洋医学における伝統薬として違法取引される動物がたくさんいて、ACCBにくるほとんどの動物はその過程で保護された子たちです。リハビリ後にリリースできる子もいれば、状態が悪すぎて野生に帰れない子たちもいます。

Most animals here are victims of illegal wildlife trade. Some are rehabilitated back to health and released into the wild, but other less fortunate ones are permanent residents and given the best care. 

中にはもちろん絶滅危惧種も含まれており、ツアーの初めにまず渡されるのはこちらの表。現在ACCBにいる動物たちをIUCNレッドリストのカテゴリーに分けてあるんです！しかもラミネートされててしっかりしてるので見やすいし扱いやすい。地味に感動しました笑

There are of course endangered species (if you count LC, NT, VU then all of them are "endangered") and at the beginning of the tour your guide will hand out these laminated references; ACCB rescued animals categorized into IUCN red list categories! 

ちなみに私たちも実際それぞれのツアーに参加してみてわかったのですが、取材向けツアーでは一般開放されていない動物の一部に出会うことができるので、一般向けと取材向けではリストの内容が違うんです。（写真は一般向けリスト）結構いろいろこだわっていてしっかりしてるな、という印象でした。

Normal tours and photo/journalist tours have different lists; photo/journalist references are slightly more detailed with a Critically Endangered category too. (Yes, p/j tours cover a slightly wider range of the facility and a bit more animals than the normal tours). We were really glad that the quality of the tours were high and guide talks were very interesting and educational for both days!
