In our last 2 blogs about Japanese endangered animals, we wrote about
- IUCN red list
- Min. of Env. red list
So I wanted to explain a little about the 2 red lists!

IUCN is a global organization that gathers data about wildlife from around the world and categorize them into groups.
The Japanese ministry of environment also have their own resources to research about the wildlife in Japan.
Because they are localised they are able to obtain more accurate and updated data, thus some animals are categorised differently on the IUCN and Min. of Env. red lists.

We bought the latest 2013 edition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (crazy but you can only buy it there!) 5 years ago.
Since then further research has been conducted and 3 update reports have been made.
As of 2018, there have been 41 new endangered species since 2013, which makes a totally of 3675 endangered species (both fauna and flora)

SAMSARA's current line ups are mostly endangered animals from outside Japan, but we do plan on focusing on our native animals in the near future...!

SAMSARAの今のシリーズは海外の絶滅危惧種が多いですが、いずれは日本の動物たちにもフォーカスしていこうと妄想してます♪
