今日はSAMSARAのアトリエがある長野にきています。

一日中快晴で気持ちのよい日でした！

今晩はパンダのボランティアについてお話します♪

成都市内のホテルに７時に送迎が到着し、１時間半ほど車にゆられて到着。

まずはボランティアワークのオフィスに案内され、緑のボランティアポロシャツに着替えます♪

ボランティア証を首から下げて、どんどん実感が湧いてきます！

Pick up to our hotel was really early, around 7 am, and we arrived at the Dujiangyan research base at about 8:30 am.

First, we were taken to the volunteer work office, where we were given special polo shirts to change into. (you get to take it home!)

私たちのチームはまずは双子の姉妹パンダたちのスペースに案内され、食べ残しや排泄物のお掃除をしました。

First job was, as you may have guessed, cleaning up left over food and waste.

Job gets done very quickly, as our team was an efficient group of 7.

綺麗になると、水洗いされた新鮮な竹を運び込みます♪

写真で見るとかなりの量ですが、これでも半日ほどしか持ちません…！

Once the enclosures are clean, we bring in fresh bamboos.

This amount only lasts pandas for a few hours...half a day at most!

午前中の仕事を終えると、スタッフ用のカフェテリアでランチタイムです。

４種類くらいおかずがあり、白米とスープが用意されています。

さすが四川省…おかずは全てかなりの辛さでした（笑）

After our morning work, we all have lunch at the staff cafeteria.

They have about 4 dishes, white rice and soup. Not surprisingly, the dishes were all Sichuan taste, meaning quite spicy!

ランチ後は再びお仕事で、今度はフーバオくん（４歳）のケージのお掃除です！

私たちは最後にケージに入ったので入り口付近を担当したのですが、すぐ後ろでソワソワと掃除が終わるのを待っていました♥

ンフーッ　ンフーッ　と鼻息が聞こえるほどの至近距離でした♪

In the afternoon we continued our work, this time in FuBao's (male, 4 years old) enclosure.

We were the last ones to enter the enclosure so we started with cleaning the entrance.

FuBao was roaming around right behind us, waiting to feed on the fresh bamboos :)

最後に「パンダケーキ」を作ります。

お米、卵、コーン、大豆でできているタネを形成し、数時間蒸したものをおやつタイムにあげます。

Lastly, we make "panda cake".

The batter, which is already prepared, is made of rice, eggs, corn, and soy beans. We shape them for steaming, which takes several hours.

ボランティア参加証をもらって終了でした！

動物園でもパンダには合えますがボランティアはなかなかないので貴重な経験でした。

パンダの生態について、研究基地の方々の活動についてももっと知ることができて有意義な旅でした★

Volunteer work with pandas are not common, so it was a very special opportunity for us to learn more deeply about pandas and the works of all the staff at the research bases in China.
