So, we spent a good amount of time at the Chengdu Research Base.
There are many research facilities and panda enclosures spread out on a hill, so like us, if you are planning on visiting you should probably use the golf cart to go to the farthest (highest) facility and walk gradually downhill back to the entrance!

Breakfast time for pandas are 8:00 am, but since we got there 30 min late most of them were already in serious nap mode...
Some were still enjoying their bamboo brekkie and gave no thought to the crowd of Humans surrounding their enclosures!

We of course visited in our SAMSARA Panda Ts :)

This guy was enjoying his neat little seat in the tree!

It might come as a surprise but wild pandas live a solitary life.
From birth it takes approximately 2 years for a panda to separate from the mother. During then, only the mother is the baby panda's teacher and playmate.
In fact pandas do give birth to twins, but in the wild mother pandas raise only 1 out of 2... so pandas usually do not have siblings to play with.

In this facility (as well as other zoos around the world), you get to see pandas socializing a lot! Many pandas share enclosures so they play and communicate with each other.

There are at least 2 baby panda facilities, and if you walk through the corridor you get to see into one of the rooms (through the window) where the babies are nursed.
These balls of fluff were so adorable♥
Younger babies will be kept inside incubators for viewing.

Pandas all have the same colouring and patterns so we weren't sure if we can recognise individuals...
After meeting almost 200 pandas that day, we were actually able to distinguish slight differences in the colour patterns and facial/body structures!
Tomorrow we'll write a bit about the museum located in the Research Base :)
